Ingredients
1 box chocolate cake mix (15.25 oz)
3 large eggs
½ cup vegetable oil
1 cup water
1 cup sour cream
Optional: ¾ cup chocolate chips
Optional: ¾ cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
Optional: ½ cup dried cherries or cranberries
Optional: 2 tablespoons instant coffee (dissolved in the water)
Optional: 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat and prep : Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or parchment-line two 9×5″ loaf pans.

Step 2: Make the batter : In a big bowl, mix the cake mix, eggs, oil, water, and sour cream. Beat on medium for 2 minutes until it’s silky.

Don’t overthink it. The box mix knows what it’s doing. You just bring the heart.
Step 3: Stir in the fun : Fold in your chocolate chips or dried fruit if using. Save some for the top if you want that bakery finish.

Notes
For a lighter version, replace half the oil with unsweetened applesauce.
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
