Description
This incredibly easy chocolate cherry dump cake requires no mixing, no measuring cups, and just 5 minutes of prep time. Just layer ingredients in a baking dish for a warm, gooey dessert that tastes completely homemade.
Ingredients
1 box chocolate cake mix (15.25 oz)
2 cans (21 oz each) cherry pie filling
½ cup (1 stick) butter, thinly sliced
½ cup chocolate chips
Optional: ¼ cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Dump the cherry pie filling into the baking dish and spread it evenly across the bottom.
Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the pie filling. Do not mix!
Place thin slices of butter all over the top of the dry cake mix, trying to cover as much of the surface as possible.
Scatter chocolate chips and nuts (if using) across the top.
Bake for 45-50 minutes until the top is set and the edges are bubbling.
Cool slightly before serving. Best enjoyed warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Notes
Covering as much of the dry cake mix as possible with butter ensures you won’t have dry patches in your finished cake.
You can use any pie filling – apple, blueberry, peach, or even pumpkin work beautifully with chocolate cake mix.
If slicing butter feels tedious, you can melt the butter and drizzle it over the cake mix instead.
Cover and refrigerate leftovers for up to 3 days. Reheat individual portions in the microwave for about 30 seconds.
You can prep the layers up to the butter step, cover tightly, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking.
