Description
A hearty and flavorful Seafood Dirty Rice recipe made with shrimp, sausage, rice, and Cajun spices. Perfect for quick shrimp and rice meals, easy one pot meals for busy families, and healthy seafood and rice bowls.
Ingredients
1 ½ cups uncooked rice
1 bay leaf
¼ teaspoon salt
⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper
⅛ teaspoon + ½ teaspoon paprika
⅛ teaspoon + ½ teaspoon thyme
1 lb medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 celery stalks, chopped
2 bell peppers (1 green, 1 orange)
1 lb ground beef or pork sausage
½ teaspoon cumin
Salt and pepper to taste
2 scallions, chopped
Instructions
1. Cook rice with bay leaf, salt, cayenne, paprika, and thyme.
2. In a skillet, cook shrimp until just pink. Set aside.
3. Sauté onion, garlic, celery, and peppers until soft. Add cumin, paprika, thyme, cayenne, salt, and pepper.
4. Brown sausage until cooked through, 10–15 minutes.
5. Add cooked rice and shrimp back to skillet. Toss gently, cover for 2 minutes, and sprinkle scallions on top.
Notes
For a healthy twist, use brown rice and extra vegetables.
For gluten-free, use GF sausage and seasonings.
For dairy-free, swap butter for olive oil.
Double the recipe for a family-style one pot seafood and rice meal.
